Recommendations for lunch in Koyasan? 2013/10/2 07:38
I'm planning a day trip to Koyasan and I'd love to try the famous Buddhist vegetarian food in one of the temples. Does anyone know which temples serve food for lunch? Any suggestions to narrow the possibilities? It'd be great if the food was served in a nice setting, i.e. a room with a nice view.
Thanks.

As far as I know, the temples don't serve lunch. I think they only serve breakfast and dinner and only to guests spending the night there.

You can have a fun, standing lunch on the way there though. http://traveljapanblog.com/wordpress/2013/10/eating-in-a-japanese-trai...

We had an amazing lunch at a temple in Koyasan: superb Kaiseki Ryori.
I unfortunately no longer have the name of the Temple,(it started with an "H": cant seem to find it on Google) but it was organised for us in advance by friends through the Koyasan Touist information office.
There was a choice of prices, ranging from 3000Y to 5000Y from memory.
We had 6 of us in a room to ourselves overlooking the sublime garden. The room had a Western toilet off it as well.
I would get to Koyasan early in the morning and see if you can organise something.
Good luck!!

Pretty sure this is the temple, as it looks correct on the map.

It says dinner is not served in guest rooms, but we certainly had our lunch in what appeared to be a guest room.
Enjoy!!!
