Are Visa Gift Cards accepted in Japan? 2014/2/20 03:20
I know Japan is mostly a cash based society, but I was wondering if I have several Visa gift cards, will they be accepted in major shops and restaurants?

You'll need to check the terms and conditions of each card, but generally they should work just like a regular visa credit card.

since your visa gift cards are issued in dollar currency, I think your cards may not accepted.
moreover,
Due to changes in applicable law, gift cards purchased after March 31, 2012 may not be used for international transactions or purchases. Please use gift cards for domestic U.S. transactions or purchases only.

I'm not positive as I can't find the applicable law, but that may only apply to Vanilla branded Visa Gift Cards. The general visa gift card faq implies that gift cards may be used internationally if they are not imprinted with "Valid only in the United States"
