Past polite of shitai? 2014/6/2 23:19
I can't for the life of me figure out how to conjugate the polite past tense of したい

It’s common for people to say したいですto make したい more polite, so does that mean in past tense you would say it like したいでした or したかったでした or したかったです ? I'm pretty sure the third is totally gross and wrong but I'm a little confused. Or is it okay and polite to just use したかった?

(specifically i want to use the past polite of 連絡したい)

OR do you treat したい like all other い-verbs and make it したいます --) したいました? I don't want to do that and have it be mistaken for 慕う...awkward...

I want to contact with you.
私はあなたに連絡を取りたい。
私はあなたに連絡を取りたいです。
I wanted to contact with you.
私はあなたに連絡を取りたかった。
私はあなたに連絡を取りたかったです。

"-tai" form conjugates the same way as "i-adjectives."
Therefore:

連絡したい (I want to contact - informal)
連絡したいです (I want to contact - polite)

連絡したかった (I wanted to contact - informal)
連絡したかったです(I wanted to contact - polite)
