Cheap Clothes In Tokyo Area? 2014/7/6 18:11
Next summer I am planning a trip to Japan! Airplane baggage rules can be strict and I'm planning on packing very little and then buying all of my clothes there! However I like to get a good bargain.
Im planning to do all of my shopping around Tokyo area (visiting Akihabara Shinjuku Shibuya Harajuku...)

What are the best Areas and Stores to do shopping for cute girl clothes for myself as well as mens?
My boyfriend and I will be planning on doing the same thing but if all stores are super expensive might as well just being clothes. Im talking cheap as in around $10 n not having 2 items already cost $100! I need money to spend on travel too!

What Areas and Stores are the best for cheaper cosmetics ex.) eyeliner eyelashes contacts

I was thinking of going to a cosplay store and buying wigs, contacts and eye lashes but are there cheaper places to get these things at a different store?

Visit Nakano broadway and sunmall shopping street. There are cheap clothing stores for girls/womens, not many of boys/mens clothing stores.

Ueno Ameyoko shopping street has some of cheap cosmetic shops.

But what is your budget and taste? If your budget is high enough, even the usual malls (Daimaru, SOGO, etc) may be great places to shop too.

You have a month in Tokyo right? Possibly you could just explore when you get there.

Oops. I just noticed that your idea of cheap is $10.

Some stores in Shimokitazawa would still work. And you can try the flagship Uniqlo store in Ginza and also the GU right beside it. Very affordable pieces.

You can buy cheap clothes in the free market.
I think Yoyogi Park's best, but when you come where free market or is opened, it is not yet known.
In addition, the East department store (Toyo hyakka-ten)Shimokitazawa has entered an interesting shop.

GU group of Uniqlo also cheap.

Hm...What is people's idea of "cheap" in Japan? Usual price ranges?

Also I'm really fine with the clothes the usual teens wear today ex.)Forever21 but who wants to go to an American store when they're from America right?

I second haro's recommendation of Shimamura. There is another store inside Aqua City in Odaiba, though I think it's only women's apparel for that location. In any case, their clothing and accessories are pretty cheap. I don't think I've paid more than $20 for any item there.

I suggest that you bring most of your own clothes, if you think $50 is expensive. $10 a piece? Not going to happen unless you're ok to hit the recycling shops. As for cosplay, you're better off ordering from Ebay. They sell the same made in china stuff in Akihabara, but at a premium price.

Uniqlo is always a decent choice for inexpensive clothing, especially if there's a sale!

To be honest I do not think Uniqlo is the kind of "fashion" the OP is looking for...

Re: Cheap Clothes In Tokyo Area? 2014/7/8 06:37
It's certainly more fashionable than anything else in that price range.

Try Matsumoto Kiyoshi for the first two. They have many outlets across Japan. I've not really looked at the prices of the falsies though since I don't use these.

There are outlets in Venus Fort Odaiba.
I do not know how much cheaper.
https://www.venusfort.co.jp/multi/en/floormap/3f_list.html
There seems to be a outlet of moussy shops and 777 yen major clothes.
I think the store of Venus Fort and many shops of comparatively cheaper.

Re: Cheap Clothes In Tokyo Area? 2014/7/8 15:51
$10 for a single clothing item is unrealistically low for Japan and other countries!

In my Canadian hometown I can buy--when they have a sale-- a very cheap T.S for that price, but not a pair of pants. Definitely not shoes, a sweater or windbreaker...Even underwear is often more than $10. And all these clothes would be plain, kind of ugly too..

We have H&M,Zara, Abercrombie and more and they are all way more expensive...

Re: Cheap Clothes In Tokyo Area? 2014/7/8 16:47
Of course it differs on the type and style of clothing that you are looking for, but finding basics like t-shirts for 1000 yen per item is not a problem. Shorts, pants, jackets, shoes etc usually run more, but if you shop at stores like Uniqlo and gu you can find things in the 1000-2000 range easily. Whether or not it's fashionable is another question, but uniqlo and that type will at least carry recent, if not generic, fashions.

@Monkey See

What "other countries" do you refer to?

Anyways, as others have already mentioned, it's very much possible to get sub 1000 yen clothes in Tokyo.

I buy quite a lot of them because though they aren't cheaper than the cheapest that I can buy in my home country (yes, sub sub 1000 yen clothes are available in "other countries"), the quality is certainly better.

Granted that some GU shirts do feel a little cheap, you have other choices in the same price range as others have mentioned.

GU is a definite place to go. My fiance loves all the apparel that I got for him there. They are sister company of Uniqlo with a cheaper price range and younger looking style.

Other than that, try Lowry's Farm too. They have occasional discounts. I got some tops and a dress for USD5 and USD10.

Lastly, try some outlet parks like Mitsui Outlet Park. http://www.31op.com/english/ There are some around Tokyo area but you gotta travel a bit out.

If you are looking for things other than apparel, try Don Quijote. Their prices are lower than hypermarkets and they offer a HUGE range of stuff (mostly made in China for Japanese market) and you even get some apparel stuff there too. They also have cosmetics, food stuff, home stuff, apparel for guys and girls, kinky stuff etc!

Re: Cheap Clothes In Tokyo Area? 2014/8/5 16:37
If you are from the US, be careful and do a bit of research about the size before coming over here. Unless you are petite and slim-built, you might have difficulties to find clothes that fit, or at least the range of your choice will be quite limited.
Same goes with your BF.
