Yukata and kimono buying 2014/7/7 10:36
I love the designs and prices from an online shop called kimonomachi. But I don't understand enough Japanese to know if they have a physical shop? http://www.kimonomachi.co.jp

Is there any similar shops in Osaka, Kyoto and Tokyo where I can actually go and see the designs? The ones from Hankyu, Daimaru are too expensive for me... I plan to buy a Yukata set and a casual kimono set.

Yesterday I tried my first kimono and it was amazing, I got addicted to it lol! And I want to wear it for my prewedding photoshoot!

Looks like their physical shop is in Kyoto: 〒600-8104
京都市下京区五条通高倉西入る万寿寺町143番地いづつビル5階
(有)京都きもの町
075-354-8511(TEL)

Kyoto has a ton of locations to buy used kimono, but then so does Tokyo. I've never been to any in Osaka, though I'm sure there are plenty.

For yukata, they're all over depending on the season you are in Japan. Anywhere from Ameyoko to big department stores, to women's clothing stores like Shimamura, you may find sets of varying prices. You can also find yukata used as well.

I think that's just their office address rather than a store. If you street view the address it looks like an office building and there isn't any storefront.

Thanks. I think they are just an online store cuz there's really not much info about shop front. I'll try my luck with ameyoko, Takashimayanand the likes. But does these shops sell accessories like kimono inner wear, hair accessories and the likes? I'm looking for more of a pure kimono shop.

Something like kimonomachi but physical shop.
Thanks!

Looking at their website again, it still looks like they do other things: http://www.kimonomachi.co.jp/category/1307.html

I'm thinking it may be like Ichiroya, mostly online, but they allow people to go to the shop as well. (For reference, http://www.ichiroya.com )

For inner stuff, yes, a kimono shop will work, but you wont be getting things at used prices. You basically have 2 options when it comes to kimono shopping:

1) go to a used kimono store and hope you can find all the pieces (depending on the store you usually can, but I've found that even at these places, they tend to urge you to buy new underthings)

2) got to a regular kimono store and buy new.

You might have to search around to find all the pieces you need. For yukata, it is pretty easy, but depending on what you need for kimono, you might have to shop around a bit. I'd buy what you can at a used store, then if you're still missing, check regular stores for it. And don't skimp on some things... tabi might be a bit expensive, but I'd rather buy them new!

I think some of the pictures are from yumeyakata, which is kimonomachi's sister company which does kimono rental. There's where I found kimonomachi.

I don't mind to buy new inner wear. Since I think it's more hygienic as well. I found another shop called tokyo135 which has some used furisode. Is 20,000yen consider cheap? Tmr I'll start my hunt in Tokyo cuz I just came here.
