yllwsmrf, I think I do need some help! it seems there are more that one iteration of this series, so I don't know how to discriminate when searching on Amazon,jp or Rakuten. Any help in what I can put on the search line to look at items for the most current series, the one with that one particular character?

Haha, yea I totally get the problem. The way I understand it, Purikyua (or Pretty Cure in English) is the series name, but each season is basically a standalone show with different characters. But since they are generally the same colors, it can be difficult to tell the individual characters apart.

According to Wikipedia, Smile! Purikyua aired in 2012 so it's a little dated ;), but you can still find the merchandise on amazon and rakuten. Do you need the blue character specifically?

Well, I had very thoughtful and insightful help of a dear friend, who saw things through Japanese eyes and gave me great advice. I had to think about things in Japan, where space is a premium. Still, I thought this would be a great thing for her and her half-year-old brother. Let me know what ya think!

Space is precious everywhere - No one likes clutter. Japanese people are just neater/cleaner/more organized than most other. So, "kindly refrain from sending them junk" is probably what your friend meant.
If those are pillowcases, maybe. But if they are actual pillows, 60cm each, Stay away! I don't think any parent would appreciate that.
This may be cheap, but if I was a 4yo, I would love to receive it.

Sorry John, I missed your last post. A pillow would be a great idea, my daughter has something similar and loves it. Although as the last poster suggested, 5 may be too many. How about just the one with her favorite character?

For what it's worth, my daughter has also gotten some of the small figurines like the one that was linked and she liked that too. I'd just reconsider adding the healthy candy, I mean, what kid wants healthy candy on their birthday ;)

Lol !! Healthy candies can be delicious. Believe me, there are some made of fruit that I can personally finish a pack in a flash if I don't resist (the sour ones specially). I didn't mean grandmotherly medicine-like. lol Just not jam-packed with sugar and artifitial colorimg etc. If I had a kid I wouldn't feed him/her that.

Thank you Minerva and yllwsmrf...but the damage has already been done! She got the 5 pillows and she's happy! She has a 7 month old brother, so I knew little figurines would be a potential choking hazard, so I steered clear of those.

I think they can be smashed down to eliminate the air inside and that could help with the storage? I just couldn't resist the 5-pack just as she couldn't resist the urge to open the package immediately upon arrival! Her birthday isn't until Sept., so it's an early B-day present. I hope I wasn't too "generous" with the quantity and am forgiven if it was too much!

Don't worry, I am sure you are fine. The bad alternative would be if the parents were happy and she wasn't. I doubt they mind as much as my warning made it sound like. Just in case, for the time being act extra adorable! lol

Thanks Minerva! I won't be able to visit the little cutie until I get back to Japan and Hiroshima, specifically, in April next year. By that time, I'm sure she'll be thinking about the next gift from "American 'Uncle'" John! lol
