How do you say? 2014/9/15 01:24
How do you are you afraid in Japanese? I heard something like this:

"Kowai wa ne anata?"

Did you actually hear that? The only situation I can imagine anyone saying "Kowai wa ne, anata?" is "You are afraid/scared, aren't you?" like two people go into haunted mansion together, one pretends he is not afraid, but the other (lady) observes that his legs are shaking. So she turns to him and says "kowai wa ne, anata?" in a mocking way. (The reason why I say "she" is because "...wa ne" is female speech.)

More general question "Are you afraid/scared?" would be:
- Kowai no? (informal/casual speech),
- Kowai n desu ka? (somewhat polite speech)

Note that "kowai" is in the literal sense of "scared," so cannot be used in the sense of "are you afraid/concerned (that something might happen)."

And one more question if I answer:

Sou omou no nara, kiite kudasai."If you think that, then please retreat"

Tha retreat means "go away" or just like retract?

To me it sounds like:

- If you think so, please listen (to my story).

"kiite" comes from the verb "kiku/kikimasu," meaning to listen (to someone), to ask (question of someone), etc. I don't see any "retreat" there :)
