Hello everyone, 2 months ago I met a japanese person who later became my friend, when we met he said "Hajimemashite, yoroshiku onegaishimasu" but at that time I forgot what "yoroshiku onegaishimasu" meant so I just said "Hai, hajimemashite" But then I remembered it meant please be nice to me, and I didn't say it back to him, did he take offense to it, is it to late to bring it up and explain to him I forgot, should I not bring it up at all? I just don't want him to thing that I am a bad person.

hallo,I'm Japanese.
I think you don't have to explain it to him, because he doesn't regard you as a bad parson even if you said only "hajimemashite", and parhaps he doesn't remember what you said to him then.
Sorry for my poor English.
