Hi, I'm having a trip to Japan soon, I'm thinking of buying iPhone 6 Plus in Japan. I would like to do whether I can made a 8% Tax Refund or not?

Thank You

What makes you think that you would get a tax refund?

Only if you buy it at one of the (relatively few) shops that offer tax-free shopping to tourists:

1. I've noticed recently that the number of shops at Akihabara offering tax free has greatly expanded.

2. If an iPhone is bought at an Apple shop in Japan, it's usually locked to a network.

Yes, according to this thread apple stores are tax free. Note that you'll need to spend over 10000 yen in one purchase and will need to present your passport for validation. Also, the iphone 6 and 6+ are both backordered, and the website lists the 6+ with a 3-4 weeks wait time.

He probably heard it from Hello Kitty ;)

Seriously though, tax free shopping has been a big Japan travel story this year because of the new tax free shopping rules that went into effect in October.

I may be missing something here but it seems that all iphones bought at the apple store are sim free. But maybe it's like some countries where the phones may become bound to a carrier once activated?

if you want to get tax refund, you are requested to bring the purchase as a souvenir out of Japan with no opening package.(not use it in Japan.) they will issue the tax document which will be collected at airports.
