Rock bars in Tokyo 2014/12/11 22:43
I will be in Japan for 3 weeks in March and wonder if anyone can recommend some bars, clubs, etc. where they play Japanese rock music instead of pop/club/hip hop/R&B music.

Thanks in advance!

If you want to listen to Japanese rock, your best bet is to visit a venue where bands play live. There are various venues depending on what kind of "rock" you prefer.

Otherwise, since rock music is originally from the UK and the US, almost all bars generally carry a great stock of British/American records. But a lot of them also have records of Japanese bands, so ask the bartender (who is usually the DJ).

Places like Koenji is famous for the many old-school rock bars near the train station. Hope you have fun!

Most of it isn't Japanese rock, but there are a couple of rock/heavy metal bars in Kabukicho. The names of the places are Godz and Rock Bar Mother.

They are similar to these places in other Japanese cities:
