I am studying abroad for 5 months in Tokyo. I currently have a Canadian iPhone 5 that has LTE/4G network.
Can I buy a Japanese SIM card and still continue using my same phone?
Thanks.

Yes, if it is unlocked. However, if you stay only for five months, it may be difficult to obtain a SIM from a "major" carrier, and you would need to use an alternative provider such as bmobile.
