Mail to Japan (chocolates) 2015/4/18 18:33
Hello,
I just sent a parcel by mail to my friend in Japan with some chocolates and wafers, around 1,5 kg. I am a little afraid if she will get it for free or if she will be forced to pay some customs. That would be quite awkward as it is supposed to be surprise gift. What do you think?

I frequently receive similarly heavy chocolate presents (and even heavier ones) by postal mail from overseas. I never had to pay any custom fees, but on several occasions, the custom officers did open the parcel to inspect the contents. They closed it in a relatively nice way afterwards again and attached a "inspected by customs" sticker.

It won't be any tax imposed if it's a personal gift.
If you tick or write on the customs declaration that you had sent it as gift.
