Do laundry pods work in washing machines?

I'm visiting Japan next month and my place will have a private washer/dryer. Will laundry pods (Tide Pods, Gain Flings, etc.) work in it? I have a stash of free samples and am hoping to be able to use them instead of going out to buy detergent.

Yes, they work fine. They're probably portioned a little bit big for the typical Japanese washer/dryer but that shouldn't really be a problem with your limited use.
