Modern wedding after party attire?

Hi JGers!
I'm going to a modern wedding (at a reception hall, not a shrine) at which I am performing. My dress is good for the wedding, but not really for after - there is a run of parties at a different location. What should I wear to the after party? Will a black dress be okay with some nice jewellery... nothing low cut, of course...

P.S. I've heard that you absolutely must wear a shawl at the wedding/reception. Is this right?
