Cheap supermarket near station 2015/9/16 22:51
My relatives requested that I bring them a bunch of Japanese food and sweets which can normally be found in a normal supermarkets during my trip to Japan. I'm going to be staying in Nippori, and since I expect to be bringing a lot, I'm looking for a notable cheap supermarket which is located near a station, like a 5 minute walk or so. I've heard about the OK supermarkets, but I can't seem to find any branch near a station.

Thanks!

OK supermarket is to Jujo (Higashijujo) and Kita Akabane, but not to Nippori.

Nippori is a 15-minute walk from the station.

If you're staying at Nippori, try Ameyoko shopping archade. They are among the cheapest, and will even let you bargain. It will be fun just to walk through.

The photo in the link shows the Year-End crowd, but usually there are way less people.

Ameyoko is near Ueno station.

Near Nippori station are three sources of food gifts.

On the west exit side of Nippori station, past the Yanaka Cemetery, is the famous Yanaka Ginza. Go a block past the station, then down some stairs. You'll see lots of shops, including a supermarket.

Going further, to the end of the Yanaka Ginza, and turning right, then taking the first through lane on the left, where you can see a street ahead, you'll end up at a busy street. Turn right, and you'll soon see a large Y99 supermarket.

On the main (east) side of Nippori station, immediately turn right, and follow the street that passes the fire station, and convenience store, all the way to the end. At this main street, turn right, and not much farther you'll see an upscale supermarket on the other side of the street, to your left.

These instructions will all make more sense if you search Google maps for Nippori station.

With any luck, the noted Nippori Station expert Dick H. will contribute his suggestions here.

Thanks a lot for the shop guides! I'll be sure to take at least a look through them during my stay! :) At first I had 0 places to go for grocery and now I have like 10 haha.

I hope that the famous Dick H. will post as you've said Susan, I'm open to know about more shops around the area!

There are no cheap supermarkets near Nippori sta. I recommend you to visit "Seiyu, Sugamo" which locates near JR Sugamo sta, four stations away for Nippori. Seiyu Sugamo opens 24 hrs/7 days, as cheap as OK.
