Hi,
When i arrive at Kansai International airport, i would like to access internet eg Hyperdia, Google map for 7 - 10 days travelling in Osaka & Tokyo. What type of prepaid sim card should i buy at Kansai airport. Can i use my personal phone with the prepaid sim card. I don't prefer to rent the phone as i will travel from Osaka to Tokyo, and not able to return the photo at Kansai airport.
Appreciate your advice.

Phone rental and prepaid SIM card are distinct services, since you would be getting a data SIM for a compatible phone that you already have.
It would be great, however, if you could say what your phone is, model number or country of purchase. Different phones will take advantage of different features, use different bands, and some phones may not even be usable at all in Japan.

Faiyez,
I am using Samsung Galaxy A5. Purchase from Malaysia.
If i were to rent the phone at the airport, i wouldn't have the time to go back to the airport just want to return the phone. Normally, what is the cost for the 7 days rental.

Your phone is fine for the LTE networks of Docomo and Softbank.
You have several options at Kansai Airport.
At the "Xcom Global" counter you can get NTT Communications prepaid SIM. \3,218 for 7 days.
So Net Prepaid LTE SIM can be purchased from an airport vending machine. \3,000 on a 30-day allowance.
Or check the Softbank counter to see what their new plans are about.
The fine print is quite different for each of these alternatives, (with regard to bandwidth limits and data recharge, or daily cap and data throttling, etc.) so be sure to look into these terms, see what suits you.

or you can live on free Wifi. most main JR stn has free Wifi. You can ask the tourist info center on NTT Flets free wifi info, download app, etc
[Tips] most hostel/hotel have free wifi for their customers, so as long you can cached up the google map on places you want to go for the day/next day, offline google map+native GPS is sufficient. my workaround for hyperdia is screencap all connecting train timetable/intervals(i only do this for express n shinkansen connections) The JR free wifi/flets will br backup if i need to do some searching. Of course this is not ideal, but it works if you dont really need internet every few minutes
Japan is on 3G and newer bands, so your samsung should have no issue.
