Tokyo Kudan Kaikan building 2016/1/5 00:27
Hello:

Will the historical Kudan Kaikan Hall in Tokyo be preserved? Hopefully it will be preserved as it is a great building of quality architecture.

Thanks

Kudan Kaikan is scheduled to be rebuilt.
In March 2011 earthquake, I think it's because the dead came out ceiling fell.

Do you mean that the historical architecture of this
fine building will not be preserved? And some
mundane building will take its place?

I know the building, it is a beautiful place, but unfortunately because of fatal accident (ceiling fell through during the earthquake) it is no longer in use, and a decision has been made to re-build it. As it was managed by the Nippon Izokukai (group of the bereaved families from the war), the land and the building have been returned to the national government. A petition has been sent to the national government to preserve it, and I actually am not familiar with the final outcome.

Tokyo Kudan Kaikan will be demolished. They still don't have budget to knock down the bldg, so it still there but unable to go inside.
The Govt will build a new building there after demolished.

You are the one who had mentiond about Daimaru department store, Shinsaibashi-main bldg before?

Yes, and if it is necessary to demolish it, at least hopefully they
can also find ways to keep the original look like they are doing for the Shinsaibashi Daimaru. It would be unfortunate
if it is a whole new building with a new look.

Marunouchi and Ginza, as Shinsaibashi Daimaru, remaining building which left only appearance are several.
For example,
Kabuki-za
Mitsubishi Ichigokan
kitte
Industrial Club of Japan
Meiji Seimei Kan
DN Tower 21
Marunouchi Building and Shin-Marunouchi Building, etc.
Tokyo Station, was the idea of building a new station is broken.
However, because the opposition movement has occurred, it was supposed to be renovated building.

The more who wish, there may be a possibility that is left is appearance Maybe.
However, it was supposed to be Hotel Okura also break.
It had a higher voice to oppose in a foreign country than Japan.
I'm thinking I want to leave the Kanagawa Museum of Modern Art, but was a person that signed the activities, but do not know yet.
DOCOMOMO JAPAN to have been registered, it is a building designed by Junzo Sakakura. (No.010)

Because Japan was originally many cases wooden building, perhaps consciousness is less that Leave the building.
There was an article that said in Japanese about the Kudan Kaikan in twitter.

There is also a building that has been relocated to the Edo-Tokyo Open Air Architectural Museum, but less public facilities is not so far.

As said, if Kudan Kaikan is to be demolished,
hopefully at least just like the nice restoration of Marunouchi's
Brick Square, they could preserve its historical
appearance instead of putting a boring condo
in its place.
This is one good example of a precious piece of architecture that can't be decided by just using a wrecking ball and
that's it, then Japan will have no traditions or history left.
Where's the balance!?
Sure it will be costly, but it is well worth it!
London and New York City have good balance at least between old and new with spending the money well, example being Big Ben of London and
another being Grand Central Station in New York. Replace them with a condo lol!?

The trend in Japan is to preserve at least the facades of historic buildings like the Tokyo Kudan Kaikan, so I think there's a very good chance that the building will have a very similar look to how it currently appears. As Haro's post points out, there are many many similar projects that were recently completed that were done quite well.
