Different words refering to back, spine 2016/3/4 17:49
I've seen many different words refering to back, spine like せ and せなか. So what is the right word and in which case?

せ,背
せなか,背中
せぼね,背骨

背, back
中, center or middle
骨, bone

背 and 背中 is almost the same.
because 背,せ is only one syllable, it is difficult to understand in conversation. many people use the word,背中, instead of 背.
背中が痛い,senaka ga itai.

but, there is no word combination like 背中骨. it is 背骨.
examples are: 背泳ぎ(se + oyogi), 背負う(se + ou),

背 can be read as hai,はい.
examples : 背筋,haikin, muscle of back, 背後, etc.

There are many different words, depending on exactly what part you want to talk about, and if you are talking casually, or want to talk in medical terms.

"Senaka" is a common way to refer to your "back" in general (except for your "lower back" which would be "koshi"), and "se" is the same as "senaka."
"Sebone" would be the "backbone," and "sesuji" would be the back line as you might say "keep your back straight" (as against hunched over).
