Please call me....

Since I was very young (7 or 8, maybe?) I have been known by a different name than the one that is on my birth certificate, passport, etc. Friends, family, workmates, etc. all know me by my adopted name, the only person who still uses my real name is my mother. I was wondering if there is any easy way to express this in Japanese. Introducing myself is easy, but I don't want to create confusion (or worst case scenario, mistrust) when people discover that the name I gave them is not my "real" name. So, how can I say "My name is [ . . . ], but please call me [ . . . ]" without confusing people too much? It's not a silly nickname or anything, so I don't feel like this should be too much of a problem, should it?
Thank you.

I'm not Japanese, but I would say something like
私の名前は{real name}だけど、みんなに{the name you want to be called}と呼ばれるから、それと呼んでください。
(Watashi no namae wa (real name) dakedo, minna ni (the name you want to be called) to yobareru kara, sore to yonde kudasai)
My name is ___ but everyone calls me ___ so please call me that.
A native Japanese will probably come up with something better, but I believe that if you say this you would be understood! Hope it helps.
