Hours of onsen in Gero

Does anyone know how late public onsens are open until in Gero? We don't have the whole day there and want to go to onsens after dinner around 6:30 pm or so. Is this doable?

Also, is Onsenji temple a good place to visit in the afternoon?

In gero there is an open air bath right under the bridge which brings you from the station to the town . It has always open and you even dont need to pay anything. I spent some wonderful night in there looking at the stars chatting with some locals (cause i missed my train, so i had to spend time until late night there)

Onsenji temple is very small. you can go through it in some mere minutes.

PS: the public bath Sachi-no-Yu has also open until 23:00.
(for a little fee), but i recommend rather the outdoor one.

most beautiful onsen in Gero is Yunoshimakan in my opinion, but you must ask, when there is time for none hotel guests:
