Hi. I am going on a japan trip alone few months later. When entering those yakitori restaurants, do you wait to be shown to a seat by e staff?

Yes, of course you have to wait to be seated; some tables or counter seats may have been reserved by other people by phone, and there's no way to know which ones they are.
If you're traveling alone, you might want to look for izakayas with counter seats as well as tables - they tend to be more comfortable for lone diners. And remember that you need to order a drink of some kind - even a soft drink like oolong tea - when you sit down.
Yakitori places and other izakayas are considered to be bars rather than restaurants, and there's usually a small table charge and a free tiny snack to go with it.

It depends on the restaurant but you normally go in, then a staff invites you to to be seated depend on the number of your group. If you go 1-2 people, you will normally be seated on the counter side, 3-4 people will be seated on the table side. If no people in the restaurant, they will often say wherever you like to be seated.
