110v converter in Japan? 2016/8/26 17:23
Is it easy to find 220v to 110v converter in Japan?

How much does it cost ? Maybe in market or daiso ?

For what kind of device? If it's for something that needs a lot of power (high wattage), a converter will be heavy and expensive, possibly more than the device itself.

What kind of device do you need to charge? Typically, you don't need a step down transformer when visiting Japan, just a normal very simple plug converter will do. It's different going the other way of course - trying to use a Japanese 100/110v device on a 200+v system in another country will likely blow up the device without a transformer.

You probably just need a simple plug that will accept the prongs of your own charger and allow it to plug into a Japanese socket.

Yes, easy to obtain, but probably not what you are looking for if you are trying to run an overseas appliance in Japan. In that case you'd probably want a 100 to 240v converter, but note that these are relatively large and expensive. What are you trying to run? If it's something like a hairdryer or curling iron/flattener then forget it. It'd be cheaper to get a dual voltage travel model or buy one in Japan and then throw it away. If its a laptop or camera charger, then note that most are universal voltage and will only need a plug adapter.

100 to 240 converters are way too expensive and specialized to be carried in daiso (they do carry plug adapters however). Regular electronic stores may carry them but they are uncommon enough that you'd probably be better off ordering them online. Amazon has them, and here is a relatively inexpensive but low power rated one. The price/size scales up pretty quickly from there:

Last time I saw them they ranges in size and cost depending on power requirements. A price of Y30,000 (US$300) springs to mind, but that is pretty unreliable.

As others have said, what is it for?

Aren't all iphone chargers 100-240V type? If not, buy a charger in Japan or use USB to charge it. Both very simple solutions.

In that case a simple plug adapter will do. You can find them at major electronics stores here but I'd suggest getting one before you leave so you don't waste sightseeing time. Alternatively you can get a usb charger in Japan for about 1000-2000 yen to use while you're here.

You'd better buy it online. If you don't know how to choose a voltage converter, you can go to here voltconverter.com to know more about it.
