Moving to rural area for work 2016/8/26 20:18
I live in tokyo but i might have an offer in a rural area, about two hours from tokyo. Do you think it is a good idea to move?
Also do you have an idea how much is the minimum wage in tochigi? I am thinking i can save more money in rural area since there is so many temptations to spend in tokyo but i am worrying that the salary might be too low. Could you also share your experiences of moving or working in a rural area? By the way the job is assistant to the english teacher (will not deliver formal lesson) thanks

Depends a lot of factors, but your recent posts make it seem like you are having trouble finding employment. In that case, it seems like all offers should be seriously considered. Btw, aren't you on a engineer visa (some posts say engineer, some say specialist in humanities/international relations) ? Consider that you may need to change your residency type.

697 in 2010 but I saw unconfirmed numbers of around 705 now. Typically about 15% less than Tokyo regardless of the year.

I personally love living in more rural areas, but at the same time, 2 hours from Tokyo means that you can still visit anytime. Whether or not you save money depends on the person. Living in the rural countryside comes with other costs like possibly higher transportation fees (for example if you need a car). I also know people who were bored in the countryside and ended up going to Tokyo every weekend. That basically wiped out any cost of living savings and then some.

yes its hard for me to find a job since i dont have n1 level of nihongo nor high technical skill that is why i ended up applying as english teacher or alt. i cannot change my visa status. I do not want to have student visa or instructor visa. since it is merged (engineering visa) i think i can go by with it. thank you for the replies.
