Business English Teacher 2016/8/29 08:40
Hello

Can any one advise me how much is the salary for Business English teachers in Japan with 6 years of experience ?

I have been interviewed by ECC , and they are paying me 270,000 Yen per month ( As mentioned over there website ) , but i heard from my friends that Business English Teachers paid more as compare to normal English teachers .

Also i read in couple of forums that ECC doesn't provide housing facility ( Employees have to pay there own shared room rent ) and they will deduct the insurance too from the base salary ?

Can anyone from ECC advise me about there experience ?
How much do they actual deduct from the salary , housing facility , do they pay for 7 weeks holidays ?

Kindly share the experience of working in ECC , though I read couple of forums ?

Thanks
Kavya

It's "their" not "there". I see way too many grammatical and spelling mistakes in your post. You need to really clean it up.

Kavya's name suggests his/her L1 is not English. That apart, with those pretty glaring errors, is ECC really taking you on to teach business English? i can't beleeve eet.

But, on your points. 270k is fine/average for a new teacher. Experience of, or the teaching of, business English has no special status. Why would you think it does? No snob or elite status here for biz English. You're just a raw recruit to ECC and no difference whether you're teaching kids, business, or whatever.

Welcome to the realities of the ELT 'profession' in Japan..

Hey Anon

Believe it or not its up to you ..

We are not here for arguing firstly.

I asked couple of questions and looking for the answers .

There is no point of explaining or pin pointing the mistakes .

Thanks .

You want to be an English teacher. Pointing out the mistakes you made when using the English language is important.

Kavya

6 years' experience of business English and you cannot type a capital 'i', does not bode well. Basic IT skills would be expected from a business English teacher.

Business English clients will have high expectations of a teacher and demand more in terms of professionalism and absolute accuracy.

I'm not being mean, but based on my own experience of business English situations, realistic.

I do not know specifically about ECC, but that 270,000 yen would be considered "base salary," so it would be normal to deduct your health insurance/social security contribution from that amount, as well as income tax, before you get to your "net income."

Housing arrangements would differ from one employer to another too, but with that salary, I would find it also "normal" for the company to provide you with (probably) furnished apartment for you to live in, but charge you some amount as rent/rent contribution. 7 weeks holiday would not be the norm in Japan..

I hope someone who has worked for ECC will appear to give you answers specific to that company, but just general information for your reference :)

I think you should get a copy of the contract that they are offering to answer some of your questions (like if they pay the seven weeks vacation).

You are basically on a starting salary of Y270k per month - your prior experience gets you in the door, but doesn't help or qualify you for more.

Can any one advise me how much is the salary for Business English teachers in Japan with 6 years of experience ?

It depends on the employer. Big box eikawa teachers may teach "business english" classes but I don't think they pay those teachers significantly more than regular eikawa teachers. With 6 years experience you might want to look at schools that actually specialize in business english. The pay can be much better than the base salary you've been quoted. Note that it's a bit harder gig to break into, and you may have to come over first and build contacts for a bit before moving into a better job.

Also i read in couple of forums that ECC doesn't provide housing facility ( Employees have to pay there own shared room rent )

This is standard

and they will deduct the insurance too from the base salary ?

This should also be standard. Unless they classify you as a contract worker, in which case you are on the hook for those yourself.

do they pay for 7 weeks holidays ?

Typically no. You may get ample time off during the year (that's not uncommon at eikawa) but don't expect it to be paid. Someone familiar with Ecc's policies can elaborate more on what they offer in this area.

Experience of, or the teaching of, business English has no special status. Why would you think it does? No snob or elite status here for biz English. You're just a raw recruit to ECC and no difference whether you're teaching kids, business, or whatever.

At big box eikawa this is probably the case, but there are opportunities for seasoned business english teachers to make a lot more than what's offered there. Actual business english specialists in Japan can make a lot more than what's been mentioned already.

Not hard to read what they have on their website. Apparently (almost) seven weeks paid vacation.
