Old Japanese gourd 2016/10/2 05:42
Hi, My friend found an old Japaese gourd in his garden in Dunlop, Scotland. It is beautifully inscribed with Japanese characters and a 'farm scene'. I have pictures of the writing and wonder how I can get them translated. It really looks fascinating. Could anybody suggest how I find out what this object is and the story written on it?
Thanks,
Brian

It must be: 五柳先生傳, semi autobiographical work of Tao Yuanming, a Chinese writer/poet in the ancient times, and the language is Chinese. Since this is a known piece, I am sure that you can find the translation somewhere available.

Many thanks AK for your help, and please excuse my ignorance of the Japanese/Chinese scripts!

Try searching with "The Biography of Master Five Willows." :)
