Yokohama with 80 000 JPY month 2016/11/14 00:23
I was accepted in Yokohama for an internship.
I am granted 80 000 JPY by month + Accommodation.
Is it enough to live there and maybe to travel on weekends and discover a little bit the country ?
Thank you

You'll probably need a second job. As much as your accommodation is covered. 2666 yen per day for transport and food isn't much.

A phone and a train card for commuting to work alone can easily cost you 20,000 a month. You're left with 60,000 a month. Food can be 30,000 a month if you stick to only spending 1,000 a day so you're left with 30,000 a month if you never shop for anything.

If the accommodation part doesn't include utilities (gas, electricity, water, internet) then you might actually only have 15,000 yen left.

It's definitely enough to survive but don't count on being able to go anywhere.

If you're saying that the "accommodation" part includes utility charges (water, gas, electricity bills) and a furnished room, then you can pretty much get by doing student-like budget day trips, while paying for student lunches and doing your own cooking/laundry with your 80000 JPY/month, and even buy your books. That's normal for a local student.

If you're supporting a family or plan to fly frequently, you will definitely struggle even with a part-time job that is allowed within your visa.

Well, a Seishun 18 Kippu is 11,850 yen for a set of 5 one-day train coupons that allow you to ride on any slow JR train during the whole summer or winter school vacation period. Again, it really depends on what kind of lifestyle you have in mind.

With 80 000 JPY by month + Accommodation you can hardly survive in Japan especially in a big city like Yokohama.

Travelling on the weekend and eating at some relatively good restaurant is almost impossible. If you smoke and drink al cohol then you will be having financial issues with 80 000 JPY by month.

If the truth be told:
80 000 JPY by month + Accommodation=living a poor life.
