Shinjuku Station to Yokohama

I understand that I can take the JR Shonan line to Yokohama. I just discovered that there is a green car available with reserved seats. Where can I buy these tickets at Shinjuku Station? I also just read somewhere that I can take the Ltd Express Superview Odoriko to Yokohama. I saw this as an option on Hyperdia. However, when I tried to look this up on the Odoriko website, I'm not finding any information. Can you help point me in the right direction to get information on this? Thanks a bunch.

At green car ticket machines on the platform. Or from the train attendant, but if you buy it on the the train, it is a little bit more expensive.
I also just read somewhere that I can take the Ltd Express Superview Odoriko to Yokohama.
Odoriko trains depart Shinjuku only at 9:25. On some designated days, there is an additional departure at 8:30.

If you're using a Japan Rail Pass, and if you need a seat reserved, just ignore my post, but there are also many other ways to reach Yokohama area from Shinjuku area. Please tell us your nearest stations if you are thinking of other options.

Or don't bother with stations, just plug the starting and ending points into Google Maps and it will tell you how to get there....

Umami Dearest - while google maps and hyperdia are useful tools, they are not as good as local experts that do these trips all the time. The request to know start and end points is valid.
I have, on many occasions, used better/faster/more efficient routes than suggested by google, and for local travel around hyperdia I no longer bother because it comes up with so many weird options I have to ignore it.

Hi All, Thank you for your replies. I will be staying at the Keio Plaza hotel so will be closer to the West exit of the station. If at all possible, I do not want to have to transfer trains to get to Yokohama. My husband has some mobility issues. I will not have a JR pass. However, I do plan on getting Suica cards.

Hyperdia is your friend. http://www.hyperdia.com/en/cgi/en/search.html?dep_node=SHINJUKU(JR)&ar...Look for the staffed ticket counter to buy seats. Also, as you mentioned, plenty of Shonan-Shinjuku trains, as far as I know, all trains have a couple of cars for green seats. Timetable for both Odoriko and S/S trains is at http://www.hyperdia.com/en/cgi/en/intervaltime.html?dep_node=SHINJUKU(...Note that, while much more frequent, you cannot reserve seats on regular Shonan-Shinjuku green car seats, first come first serve, you enter, look for available seats (there is a light on top of the seat, red means occupied, green either vacant or that the person in that seat has not paid yet), tap your Suica card on it, and tap out shortly before leaving. Also, since you mentioned mobility issues, these cars are double decked and involve going up and down a couple of steps.

Uji, When I took a look at the time table for the Super View, the 9:25 a.m. train indicates that it operates only in peak season or on specified days. So it looks like the Super View does not leave from Shinjuku except for those times. I am going in June.

Thanks again everyone. Sanno - Your last link to the timetable. You can see where someone would be confused as that symbol for peak season is there. From: https://www.eki-net.com/pc/jreast-shinkansen-reservation/English/wb/co... And thank you for letting me know that I have to tap the card on the seat. I do have another question albeit a silly one. Are there markings on the platform on the Shonan Shinjuku line that indicate where the green cars are?

Sorry to be a pain but I want to make sure I get things straight. Shonen Shinjuku Line - Before I get on the train, I go to the Suica machine and buy a green ticket. I will not receive a paper ticket. Is the purpose of this to tell me if green seats are available? I cannot buy 2 green card tickets with my Suica card. Husband will have to tap his own card to buy his. Is this correct? Once on the train, look for seats with a green light and tap my card again. Tap card again before leaving the train. Did I get this right? Thanks.

JapanCustomTours, I think it's always worth consulting Google Maps, even it one ends up following the advice of a local expert such as yourself.
IME, a lot of visitors simply don't realize that there are alternatives to taking the JR, and that those alternatives are often faster and cheaper. In particular, a tourist going from Shinjuku to "Yokohama" is just as likely to be heading for Minato-Mirai or Motomachi-Chinatown rather than Yokohama Station itself, and for destinations like Minato-Mirai the Fukutoshin Line is much more efficient, not just faster but also requiring less walking. (It's also quite a bit less stressful than navigating JR Shinjuku station, but YMMV.)

I only used Suica or JR Green passes when riding Shonan-Shinjuku or Takasaki/Utsunomiya trains (more or less the same routing except they go through Tokyo station instead, and same trains), so cannot speak about green tickets bought on the machine. That being said, said green car ticket would be just a proof of payment for the attendant in the car to confirm you paid for the seat - she will ask for your destination, in that case.
You still would have to find an available seat, which should not be too hard as in the morning (for green cars) provided you can navigate through the maze and the crowd (which is always very heavy at 09 AM).
Yes, there should be markings in the ground and in hanged placards indicating the location of green cars. Cars 4 and 5 are the green cars, by the way.

Sannomiya - I will have a Suica card. This is the link that the poster H4s posted about how to use the green car. http://www.jreast.co.jp/suica/use/green/use_system.htmlI used Google translate to understand it and it mentions going to the kiosk first before getting on the train. I didn't really understand that part which is why I posted my understanding of what to do. If this is not correct, then please tell me what to do if you have a spare moment. Is it just as simple as getting on the green car, looking for a seat and then tapping my card above the seat? Thanks.

You can also just hop on the train and tap your card on an available seat, but then it's more expensive. For the cheapest price, you must pay in advance, either with your card as described on that link or by purchasing a paper ticket in the usual manner.
