Visa renewal process

I have been issued a one year spousal visa. I'm about to request a visa extension before the month ends. My question is: how long does the visa extension process normally take to finish? When do you think can I have my passport back?

In our case it took up to two months. You don't "turn in" your passport when you apply for renewal (they stamp in it to say that your resident status is being processed).

I renewed my visa 5 times and in each time it used to take from 3 to 5 weeks.
