Working full time and owning a side business 2017/7/24 22:06
Hello everyone

I wonder if someone has been or is at the same situation.

I have just started working full time at Japanese company, management division.
In Japanese law would it be legal to work as a freelance or own a company aside? Do I have to notify my employer exactly what I am doing? Currently they do know about some freelance work but not any details, especially that the side work is quite similar for what I am hired full time.

Visa is not an issue as well as the tax return, will do it my own when the time comes.

Thank you for your time...

Very carefully check your contract. Most companies will have a clause prohibiting second jobs, etc.

Japanese Immigration Act and Labour law does not prohibit workers to own a company aside or working as a freelancer.

The problem mainly concerns with the contract between you as an employee and a company as an employer. So you should do double-check on your contract, as already pointed out.

Ifd rather recommend you to consult it with your co-workers who you can trust or a lawyer.
