Is it customary when hosting a funeral to give thank you gifts to koden attendants?

according to japanese style .. yes

especially : funeral ceremony ,wedding , ordinary ceremony, etc.

also when give birth , friends and family send gifts and money .. you also most send back give to say thank you.

Yes, but discuss it with the funeral company as well as the family of the deceased. There are many options depending on the custom of the region or family as well as the amount of koden the person paid.

But you should at least give a tiny something in return (such as prepaid cards or a pack of tea and sweats) as they leave the funeral, and each attendant is to accept the item in memory of the deceased.
