Toll Costs Query 2017/9/6 09:42
Hi there,

I have been unsuccessful using these websites...

http://www2.kumagaku.ac.jp/teacher/~masden/tolls/
http://global.c-nexco.co.jp/en/navi/

...to calculate total toll costs (each way) - using an ETC card - between the addresses below.

Times Car Rental Narita Airport
916-5 Kosuge, Narita-shi,
Chiba-ken 286-0127
Phone +81 476 303 318

Nakajimaya Ryokan
389-2502, Nozawaonsen,
Toyosato 8965
Phone +81 269 852 058

I would take the fastest possible route each way i.e. I would not take extra time to avoid tolls.

Can anyone help me with this task?

Thanks,

Matt

to my believe, if you are on a tourist visa and you rent a car...you should be able to get you a discount ETC pass. Similar set-up to what JR users get. Ask the rental company.

This site is better than yr link.
http://www.driveplaza.com/dp/SearchTop
Input(C&P) fr "成田(東関東道)" as dep/出発IC to "豊田飯山" as arr/到着IC,
and change date/time, finally click 検索/search button.
成田IC : Narita IC
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Higashi-Kant%C5%8D_Expressway
豊田飯山IC : Toyota-iiyama IC
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/J%C5%8Dshin-etsu_Expressway

ルートマップ: Route map(drag to flashing Red line direction) of result page's
if skipping "gray lines zone" means Metropolitan Expressway/首都高(Shutoko).
JP : http://search.shutoko.jp/
EN : http://www.shutoko.co.jp/english/drive/map/
ETC discounted toll fee included,
just management company is different so have to calculate with different ratio.
Out of 首都高 is Nexco東日本(Higash-Nihon)/East Nippon Expressway.

http://www.e-nexco.co.jp/english/about_us/area.html
首都高 speed limit is lower than another roads
and no breakikng spots"PA, SA"(in yr case), be careful.

ETC discounted toll fee is not same anytime, depends on entering time(time zone).

Around 8500Y/ETC, 330-350km/4h30min without breaks/stops.
Fastest route does not go through 首都高(mid pard of Tokyo).

Most major roads drive recorder vids uploaded on YouTube.

Re: Toll Costs Query 2017/9/7 03:19
Hope I'm not hijacking this thread...Alishan mentions ETC discounts available to JR customers and to tourists.
I've never heard of this.
- is there any information available, please (I can't find any)
- if there's a JR discount, does that apply to JR Pass holders who are renting a car?
Thanks a lot.

To the OP:

The link you posted does not suggest the route from your starting point to the destination. It only works when you specify the starting IC (interchange) and the ending IC. To find them you must do your research, probably using Googlemaps or something. To use the site BRN posted, you still need to decide which ICs to use.

To Winter Visitor:

I think Alishan is talking about the "Expressway Pass". Below is the one example.

http://hayatabi.c-nexco.co.jp/cep/en/

This is not related to the Japan Rail Pass, but the concept seems to be the same as "rail pass": Expressway Pass allows you to use the Expressway unlimitedly during the validity period within the validity area.

Regarding that Expressway Pass for tourists, see for example:

http://global.w-nexco.co.jp/en/kep/

http://hayatabi.c-nexco.co.jp/cep/en/

Each area should have equivalent set-up.

Hope this helps.

Hi all,

Thanks for your posts - I've discovered a lot!

BRN: thank you for your very comprehensive post. Thank you for the many links you shared.

Have I understood correctly that this journey will should cost approximately 8,500Y each way i.e. a approximate total of 17,000Y?

Thanks,

Matt

Regarding that Expressway Pass for tourists

I was offered a similar pass when renting a car in Hokkaido 2 months ago:

Re: Toll Costs Query 2017/9/7 20:51
@ Matt
Yes, so around 8500Y is oneway ETC/toll cost.
Don't forget "fuel" cost. (depends on car model/class)

If you search by "(car name in JP) 燃費(nenpi in JP/fuel consumption)",
you can see the approximate amount of money at Google.
https://rental.timescar.jp/price/car/ (JP page)
https://e-nenpi.com/enenpi/ (see the 実燃費/This 実 means ave of real records by user reports)
https://e-nenpi.com/enenpi/?defact=&page=2
Now fuel cost is around 125Y/L(liter/litre, included tax) as Regular/レギュラー Gasoline/ガソリン.
https://e-nenpi.com/gs/prefavg

But "Times" based "Mazda Car Rent(acquired)",
so a lot of "Mazda" new models of Diesel engine/ディーゼルエンジン also listed.
http://www.timescar-rental.com/price/
http://www.mazda.com/en/innovation/technology/skyactiv/skyactiv-d/
Diesel fuel/軽油(keiyu) is cheaper than Gasoline
https://e-nenpi.com/gs/price_graph/2/3/0/
and no big different as fuel consumption also driving feel.
This is one of fuel consumption test "Gasoline vs Diesel engine model".
