2 days in Kyoto 2017/10/16 22:21
Hi everyone!
I'm planning to visit below areas of Kyoto in 2 days:

Central:
Nijo Castle
Nishiki Market
Pontocho

Northern:
Kinkakuji Temple
Eastern:

Kiyomizudera Temple
Ginakuji
Gion or Higashiyama (which one is better?)
Yasaka Shrine
Nanzenji Temple

Southern:
Fushimi Inari Shrine

Western:
Arashiyama

Can anyone help me with the formation? Like which can go with what in the same day?

That list is a 4 day list. If you want to fit it into 2 days. Cut half the list.

Sounds rough even to me!

I'll be in Kyoto for 3 and a half day and feel like I overcrammed my itinerary as well, however my Ryokan is at an ideal location at a 20min taxi drive from Arashiyama and a 10min taxi drive from the Gion District and again a 20min taxi drive to Fushimi Inari. It kind of depends heavily on your starting point, but it helps (a bit) to calculate distances with Google maps before you go (if you rely on cabs as me) to have an idea what you can do during the day.

Day 9: Earliest possible departure to Kyoto - Check out Shinjuku - Cab to Shinagawa train station - Buy bento for train - Shinkansen Hikari to Kyoto

Leave luggage at Ryokan around 10am

Arashiyama/Western Kyoto
Bamboo Grove
Arashiyama Monkey Park & Riverboat cruise if weather ok
Check-in Ryokan in late afternoon
Kiyomizudera light show in the evening + sightseeing Gion area a bit at night & fancy dinner.

18 Nov
Day 10: Kyoto - early start (7am30 to evade tourists / Inari Shrine as soon as sun is up & ask for must-see+eat @ Ryokan, perhaps just walking around and stalking other tourists.

19 Nov
Day 11: Kyoto - early start (5am30) / Hikari 493
Kyoto 08:02 – Shin-Osaka 08:17 – Hiroshima 10:01 / Miyajima & Hiroshima daytrip with Shinkansen (3h one way) 10am arrival in Hiroshima, Peace Museum, Miyajima by Ferry for a few pictures & gifts,
take Shinkansen around 5 or 6pm depending, sleep 3h, back to Ryokan around 10pm and ask where night-owls go. Perhaps hiring a driver to show me Kyoto by night (must be tired for flight back)

You have to factor in travel time between places. I also think you would appreciate these sites better if you take your time. I usually allot only 3 temples/shrines/sites in 1 day not unless they're very close to one another.

Re: 2 days in Kyoto 2017/10/19 01:50
I lived there quite long time and took many friends and family around Kyoto. As someone else mentioned before, your list is probably too long for 2 days. Western side of Kyoto is not easily accessible and need to take a city bus which would take long. I would do all Western side (Kinkaku-ji, Ryoan-ji (not on the list?), Arashiyama one day. Maybe, you may also have time to go to Nijo-castle on the way back, but I was disappointed last time I was there. On the second say, I would hit Heian Shrine (not on your list), Yasaka Shrine, Kiyomizu temple. From Yasaka Shrine, you can walk up to Kiyomizu temple by going thru Ninenzaka. It is popular route and you won't be disappointed. From there, go down the hill straight down and take Keihan line (private, not covered by JR pass) and get off by Fushimi-Inari. Coming back, you can take JR back to Kyoto station or take Keihan again to go to Gion and Nishiki market. If you are staying Sanjo or Shijo Kawaramachi area, then, you may hit Gion and Nishiki market on the first day (late afternoon to evening is more fun there anyhow). There are unlimited day pass (500 yen) for city bus if you are using bus as the primary transportation in Kyoto. Uji is nice, but I won't do it if you only have 2 days. If you have time, I strongly suggest to go to Nara, but it is a whole day trip.
