Iya valley in May?

Hi there,
I learned that Iya valley can be much colder than for instance Kochi or Takamatsu as it is located in the mountains.
What can I expect of the weather if going in early May? Any snow?
What about mt Tsurugi? Is it possible to visit or is it snow on the top or so?
I plan on renting a car so I try to avoid if it is snow and slippery roads...
