How do I get to Fox Village from Sendai?

Hi, I'm trying to plan a trip. All the foreign resources online help with getting to the fox village from Tokyo. However, I'm coming from Sapporo so I will be closer to Sendai; doesn't make any sense for me to go to Tokyo then up to Sendai when I could just go directly there.

What's the cheapest way to get there from Sendai (or Sapporo in general)?

When does "winter" end? I see there are buses operating "only in winter" but I plan on going in the first half of February. Will they still be running? Are there schedules and prices anywhere? I can't find anything.
