Question on Train Transfer to Narita T2

I 've checked the train schedule for 23th Dec for JR Sobu Line Rapid Line from Tokyo to Narita T2 and I would like to clarify if there is a need to make a transfer upon reaching CHIBA or I could just continue on the same train to Narita T2. As shown on the timetable, (link below) it breaks down into 2 journeys 1) Tokyo to Chiba and 2) Chiba to Narita T2. Thank you. http://www.hyperdia.com/cgi/en/search.html?dep_node=TOKYO&arv_node=NAR...

Those gray arrows mean you can stay on the same train, don't worry :)

You can see that the train arrives and departs from the same track. Unless everyone else gets off, you should just stay put.

Susan: You can see that the train arrives and departs from the same track.
It is true that this train is scheduled to be on the same track in Chiba Station. However, generally a rail track is not always identified by the track number only.
For example, Tokyo Station of JR has one main complex and two annexes. There are three tracks with Number 3, which are actually apart from each other both horizontally and vertically. For the tracks in each annex, you see a prefix in addition to the number. : Track 3 in the main complex, used for the Keihin-Tohoku Line (northbound). : Sobu Underground Track 3 on the 5th basement of the Sobu annex, used for the Sobu Line Rapid and the Yokosuka Line. : Keiyo Underground Track 3 on the 4th basement of the Keiyo annex, used for the Keiyo Line.
HyperDia shows only the number to indicate a track, even when a prefix is used for that track so that passengers can distinguish tracks of that station.
from Tokyo to Narita T2
Where is your starting point? Is Tokyo Station really located nearby?
In Tokyo Station, trains for the airport depart at the tracks deep under the ground; I recommend that you expect at least 15 minutes for you to get from Marunouchi Central Gate (on the 1st floor (= ground floor) of the main complex) to the Sobu Underground Track 3 or 4 (on the 5th basement of the Sobu annex).

I would like to clarify if there is a need to make a transfer upon reaching CHIBA This train is bound for Narita Airport Station (in Terminal 1 of the airport); you make no transfer and disembark at Airport Terminal 2 Station. hakata14: http://www.hyperdia.com/help/help_ke.html#point_markReading the help section is a great way of understanding how to use HyperDia correctly. This help is available also in English. http://www.hyperdia.com/en/help/help_ke.html#point_markFiras: Chiba is only displayed because it is the junction point between the Sobu and Narita lines The Narita Line starts from Sakura Station, not from Chiba Station. Even though the JR section Chiba -- Sakura is a part of the Sobu Main Line, in Chiba Station, for passengers' convenience, the tracks for trains which go beyond Sakura on the Narita Line (for Narita and Narita Airport Stations) are labeled simply as Narita Line; this is because there are also trains which go further on the Sobu Main Line beyond Sakura. The section Tokyo -- Chiba, which is usually called as Sobu Line (Rapid), is the west part of the Sobu Main Line. JR trains which go by Chiba Station take various routes. For example, among the trains which go eastbound on the Sobu Line Rapid section, some trains run only until Chiba, some trains go further on the Sobu Main Line for Sakura, and some trains continues southbound beyond Chiba on the Sotobo Line or the Uchibo Line.

A point to note about that service (I use it occasionally), is that the train sits at the station for four minutes rather than the usual short stops. That is normal.

Re: your options of transportation modes

You on HyperDia have selected only "Ordinary Train" / "Japan Railway(JR)" among the Route / Corp. parameters, excluding JR "Narita Express" trains which you may take from Shinjuku, Shinagawa or Tokyo Station and Keisei "Skyliner" trains which you may take from Keisei Ueno or Nippori Station.
There are also a few low-cost bus routes connecting Tokyo Station and Narita Airport.
Compared to a JR "Airport Narita" Rapid train service, possible merits of these transportation modes are that you always have a reserved or designate seat, that you can keep your luggage in a separate space, and that you usually travel faster.
If you need to reach the airport in the morning, I suggest that you choose among these more convenient options and travel by the previous night, considering possible happenings like suspension of the train service and the congestion of the road traffic.
