How to pray in shrines and temples 2018/1/8 10:53
I want to go to Japan this year. I hope to visit some shrines and temples. I know that shrines are for practicing Shinto and temples are for practicing Buddhism. I watched some videos about how to pray in shrines and I think I'll be ok there. But I can't find much information about praying in temples. I think there must be some differences.

The big difference is that in temples, you don't clap your hands. Just pray quiet with your hands pressed together in front of your chest.

I have been to Japan many times & paid my respects at temples & shrines. I am still always nervous about getting it wrong and looking stupid. However if you know the basics and follow what you see others doing you will be fine. https://www.japan-guide.com/e/e2057.html

here are very detailed infos about how to make things at temples and shrines correctly:

temple:
https://wanderweib.de/tipps-tempel-besuch-japan/

shrines:
https://wanderweib.de/tipps-schrein-besuch/

both pages are in german, but with google translate it should be no problem to understand them. also they contain plenty of explaining pictures

Thanks again for your answers. I already read everything. And especially thanks to Glimpigumpi. Your links are brilliant. They give very clear vision what I'm gonna find there and what I'll be supposed to do. Thank you. :)
