[Tickets and traveling cost]
A traveling cost shown in this response is that for one adult passenger.
The mentioned tourist pass (14000 yen, 5 days), which can cover
that non-JR bus route Takayama -- Shirakawa-go -- Kanazawa
and the JR railway route
Nagoya -- Takayama -- Inotani -- Toyama -- Kanazawa -- Tsuruga -- Kyoto -- Shin-Osaka -- Kansai-airport,
sounds good for your legs beyond Nagoya via Kanazawa for Kyoto and Osaka,
on the condition that you complete them within 5 calendar days.
- Takayama-Hokuriku Area Tourist Pass
http://touristpass.jp/en/takayama_hokuriku/: This pass is issued jointly by JR Central and JR West.
Kisse13:
What if I did not Buy the 7 days JR pass and instead Purchased the 5 Day JR West Kauai Pass, Would that work better, or still stick to 7 days Pass.? Please collate, using a reliable source, the spelling of Japanese names (for places, facilities, etc.).
They may be misspelled while they are cited (repeatedly) in a non-Japanese language.
I cannot identify the JR-West rail pass which you are asking about.
http://www.westjr.co.jp/global/en/ticket/http://www.westjr.co.jp/global/en/ticket/pass/When in the next fall will you travel?
Will you visit any site in Takayama City?
(Maybe you plan to watch the Takayama autumn festival?)
As long as you travel between Takayama and Kanazawa,
a JR-West rail pass sounds not best suitable.
The (5-day) JR-West Kansai WIDE Area Pass (9000 yen)
does not cover the section Inotani -- Toyama -- Kanazawa -- Tsuruga in Hokuriku.
The section Nagoya -- Takayama -- Inotani is not covered any JR West rail pass;
this section is operated not by JR West but by JR Central.
Even when you choose
the (7-day) JR-West Kansai-Hokuriku Area Pass
(15000 yen, covering that Hokuriku section),
you pay more
on your JR regular tickets to go beyond Nagoya until Inotani
and for your two non-JR bus rides (4320 yen),
compared to when you make the combination
of JR regular tickets until Nagoya and the tourist pass (14000 yen).
An Exchange Order for this tourist pass
is sold at 14000 yen (outside Japan).
The JR regular cost for an adult passenger to travel
by Shinkansen from Tokyo or Shinagawa to Nagoya
is up to 11290 yen
(6260 yen as the basic fare, 4100 to 5030 yen as the Shinkansen surcharge).
The total cost to make this combination is about 25000 yen.
An Exchange Order for the 7-day (Ordinary-Class) Japan Rail Pass
is sold at 29110 yen (outside Japan).
When you travel with this pass,
you pay 4320 yen separately for your two non-JR bus rides.
The total cost is about 33000 yen.
So, to make a long story short,
unless you make also other trips (mainly by JR) within the 7 calendar days
which is enough to fill the gap in the costs on these two options,
it sounds better cost-wise to take the former option,
i.e. the combination of JR regular tickets and the tourist pass.
A possible demerit is that you cannot reserve your bus rides online, because this tourist pass should exempt you from the bus fees.
