osaka to shibazakura festival and on to tokyo 2018/1/16 21:39
We plan to travel on friday 27/04 from Osaka to Tokyo and would like to stop at the Shibazakura festival in Mt Fuji along the way. We will have a JR pass. Could someone tell me the quickest way there and then on to Tokyo....as much detail as possible please regarding train stations and duration of each stage - thank you in advance

I think the english site of Shibazakura festival does not show the route from Shinfuji station which is the closest Shinkansen station to the festival. Japanese site shows the route from Shinfuji station. There is a direct gShibazakura liner bush from Shinfuji once a day (10:45), but it runs only on weekends. So you need to catch normal bus which departs at 7:15, 9:45, 11:45 and 13:45. It will require 75 min to get to the festival.

From Osaka, it will take about 3 hours to Shin-fuji, so you may want to catch 11:45 bus. You can find the appropriate trains on hyperdia.

For Tokyo, take 15:00 bus to Shin-fuji which will arrive at 16:15 and then take 16:36 Kodama.

thank you frog1954 that is so helpful - could you confirm if taxis from Shinjuki are available and is this a viable option to go to the festival? if so how much would they cost?

According to this site

https://www.taxisite.com

It will cost 11,890-15,750 yen, and take 80 min.

I believe there will be taxis waiting at Shin-fuji.

Your another option is going to Mishima by Shinkansen, then take bus to Kawaguchiko from where you can catch shuttle bus to the festival. It will take more time as compared to the Shin-fuji route, but the bus runs somewhat more frequent.
