Insurance for a car share car?

My Japanese friend will rent an Audi TT from a car share place in Hokkaido when I visit in Feb. He will only rent it for one day, but he doesn't know how I can get insurance for the car as he will get insurance from the company he rents from.
How would you go about getting car insurance (as I only know the car will be an Audi TT)? As I usually rent with Nippon Rent a car or Nissan Rent a car, so I never use any other firm.

Maybe your Japanese friend should contact the company and ask how to include an additional driver?
