Narita-Tokyo:does hyperdia give cheaper fare? 2018/1/31 19:19
Hi guys, I'm finding ways to go from Narita airport to Shinjuku and it seems that the train is the best solution.
Searching with google, but also on japan-guide website, it seems that the ticket is more expensive than using Hyperdia.

For example in this website there is written:
'By Japan Railways (JR)
One direct rapid train per hour runs along the JR Sobu Line between Tokyo Station and Narita Airport in each direction, stopping at Narita Station along the way. The one way trip from Tokyo Station to Narita Station takes 70 minutes and costs 1140 yen. Seat reservations are not possible.
The JR Narita Express (NEX) also runs between Tokyo and Narita Airport, however, except for some early morning and evening services, they do not stop at Narita Station. Those that do, take 60 minutes and cost around 3000 yen one way. Seat reservations are mandatory.'

Using Hyperdia instead I find the following:
from NARITA AIRPORT TERMINAL 1 to SHINJUKU with LTD. EXP NARITA EXPRESS 20 the price is \1,490.

I can't use the IJ the first day because I'll activade it 2-3 days later on the basis of my itinerary.
So my question is: 1,490 is the real price or not? If I book it at the automatic machine at the airport will I find the same fare?
Thanks very much!

You need to look at the total combined cost. Not just the basic fare.

Hi, what does it mean ‘total combined cost’?

Basic fare (i.e. distance) + seat fee = total fare

It is the fare you see at the top of each option on Hyperdia, where you see the total time, number of transfers and the total fare.

N'EX is a one of JR-EAST's "Limited Express" train, so you can not get on with "base fare" alone.
A combination of tickets has an explanation on the official website of JR-EAST in EN.
http://www.jreast.co.jp/e/ticket/types.html
http://www.jreast.co.jp/e/ticket/index.html?src=gnavi

Only regular commutter 普通(Local) and 快速(Rapis) train's ordinary seats can ride with base fare alone.
Tickets are required separately if "Green" and "Reserved seat" are set as base fare plus.

Before making a big mistake, it was a correct answer by asking a question.

But if really want to take a N'EX and NRT out fr Tokyo,
JR-EAST provides "round discount ticket" only for foreign travelers.
http://www.jreast.co.jp/e/pass/index.html
http://www.jreast.co.jp/e/pass/nex_round.html

Basically, N'EX is not a Japanese choice in many cases.
(Except when rushing on weekdays morning and evening or going further away without switching)
N'EX is one very good confortable train but a bit expensive and takes time longer by not on shortest route.
https://www.narita-airport.jp/en/access/train/
N'EX is nick of this train, "Narita Express" is real name.

If not in rush hour, take a cheap bus to Tokyo station
http://accessnarita.jp/en/home/
http://www.keiseibus.co.jp/kousoku/nrt16.html
and go to Shinjuku by JR or subway, it should be cheaper than going to Shinjuku by direct bus.

"Seat Fee" is a non-official, misleading term by HyperDia.

To use a JR Shinkansen super-express | Limited Express train service,
you pay a service surcharge in addition to a basic fare.
This service surcharge is required regardless of whether you have a seat or not,
never a "Seat Fee" (as HyperDia says) to be paid for your right to use a seat.

For example in this website there is written:

You read a wrong page; this description is about how to go between Narita Station and Tokyo Station by JR lines.
Please note that both (JR) Narita Station and Keisei Narita Station are outside Narita Airport.

I'm finding ways to go from Narita airport to Shinjuku and it seems that the train is the best solution.

Where is your first destination?
Is (JR) Shinjuku Station really close to it?
If so, what gate | exit of the station is most convenient?

JR Shinjuku Station is a part of the huge and complicated railway and commercial complex.
When you disembark at Shinjuku Station and walk to your destination, it is highly recommended that you know in advance the best gate and/or exit of the station.

The area which may be called as Shinjuku is wide.
Maybe subway Shinjuku-sanchome Station (M-09, S-02, F-13) or Higashi-shinjuku Station (F-12, E-02) is closer.
