Going to Gifu-Nagano-Toyama 2018/2/25 04:29
Hello there,

I currently need help for getting around Gifu-Nagano-Toyama, my current plan is:
day 1 : Shirakawa-go, Takayama, Nagiso(if possible)/Nagoya
day 2 : Nagiso/Nagoya, Kiso, Matsumoto,
day 3 : Matsumoto, Kamikochi, Shin-Hottaka, Matsumoto
day 4 : Matsumoto, Tateyama-Kurobe Alpine Route, Matsumoto

Are there any complete option Pass for this route?

Cheers,
Pieter

The itinerary is too busy.

And I am afraid there is no pass that covers everything. The following comes closest:

There's no way you can do all that in four days. You'd be getting off a bus or train, taking a photo, and moving onto the next destination!

Agreed. That's a hectic schedule.

Definitely cut Nagoya from the list. It's a very boring city with little to offer.

Takayama is nice, but if you go there after Shirakawa-go, stay the night in Takayama and then go directly to Matsumoto/Kamikochi. Don't circle all the way back to Nagoya. That's a big detour.

Spend the rest of your time in the greater Matsumoto area.

When you leave, if you need to go toward Kansai, then take the train down the Kiso valley and if there's time, get off at Narai Station to see a nice old post town.

If, however, you need to go to Tokyo, then you'll probably have to skip the Kiso area.

Thanks for the suggestion.

I have JR Pass and thinking getting Shoryudo Highway Bus Ticket to cover Shirakawa-Go & Takayama.
Staying in Takayama definitely an option.
Well, I just use Nagoya as a transit city (for lodging only) since it is not possible to go from Takayama to Kiso valley directly.

My current question is:
- Is it possible to access direct Takayama to Kiso Valley area without going around Nagoya?
- Is it worthed to visit Kiso Valley?
- Do renting car with driver will be worthed for getting around this area? How much roughly per day?

Is it worth to visit Kiso Valley?

If your main intention is to hike the Magome-Tsumago Trail, IMO, not blooming worth it.

-.. Takayama to Kiso Valley...

yes, that is possible: take the bus between takayama and matsumoto. this will also stop on the other locations you want to visit in between, so even rental car is not needed.
then from matsumoto go to kiso.

So I guess I am going to skip Kiso Valley and spend more time around Matsumoto as suggested.

-Any suggestion for place to go near Matsumoto other than Kamikochi?
-Also, I am thinking getting round-trip from Omachi-Murodo (in Tateyama-Kurobe Alpine Route) since going to Tateyama will spend more transit time. Is it good decision to skip Murodo to Tateyama?

matsumoto is a great base for many nice trips. it might turn out to be one of the best things happened to you, since it is not very touristic, and still has a lot of attractions near:
* as already mentioned, kiso valley, but also make following things:
* Daio Wasabi Farm (http://www.japan-guide.com/e/e6056.html), nice half a day trip
* Sanbontaki (http://www.japan-guide.com/e/e6044.html), if you love marvelous nature
* Shirahone (http://www.japan-guide.com/e/e6042.html) for onsen
* Bessho (http://www.japan-guide.com/e/e6070.html) also for onsen but also a beautiful temple town
* Obuse (http://www.japan-guide.com/e/e6020.html) by foreigners highly underestimated museum town
