Takayama to Kurobe Alphine Route

hi there
we will be staying in Takayama and want to go to the Kurobe Alphine Route on 4May. Please advise which is the fastest way to go there and return within same day. Is a local guide a must for this day trip?
Please advise first and last train from Takayama to Kurobe Alphine route and back.

Hi!
Uhhhh I am pretty sure it is impossible to do as a day trip unless you only plan to do a small part of the Alpine route and then turn around.
There are only 10 trains a day between Takayama and Inotani/Toyama. The first Express that goes direct to Toyama is not until 11:01 so you don't even get to Toyama until 12:29. There is a 9:40 local, it will not get you to Toyama util 11:40 after a change in Inotani. The only train earlier is at 7:40, it too is a local, so you must change at Inotani and it arrives in Toyama at 10:05.
Renting a car doesn't really help because you can not take a car on most of the Alpine Route, so you would need to figure out where there is a car park, presumably pay for it, and leave your rental car there while actually taking the route. The drive from Takayama to Toyama is at least 2 hours going by Google.
