Haneda to Tsukiji during rush hour (5-6pm) 2018/3/20 23:17
Hi
Originally was planning on taking the subway from Haneda but have decided that during rush hour not a good idea!
So will be taking the monorail.
Which stations and lines should we transfer to in order to make it to either Tsukiji or Tsukiji-shijo stations?
Will crowds (ie standing room only) still be a problem on any train we transfer to?

Looking at Hyperdia:

It seems Hamamatsucho is where you need to get off the monorail. After that there are several options for getting around and to Tsukiji.

Account for some extra transfer time. You might be new to Japan and not be able to find the right tracks right away, plus it'll be crowded, slowing you down further.

As for crowds being a problem: not really a problem, just a nuisance. Take care not to bother anyone with any large luggage you might have. On the train, please do take off a backpack/rucksack and place it on the ground, if you have one (it is incredibly rude/bothersome to others around you if you keep wearing it). Other than that, a crowd shuldn't pose any real problems. Things are just a bit slower, and a bit warmer and smellier. Japanese train stations are usually pretty good at handling rush hours.

Evening rush hour isnft as bad as morning rush hour. Yes, plan some extra time but you should be able to get on the train. If you are a bit giver group divide over several doors.
Why did you rule out the subway? It starts at Haneda, doesnft it? So would sound ideal, ie empty train when you start. (Sorry never took subway from Haneda so not 100% sure about this line).

Morning rush hour however depending on the train line can be a problem. I was living on the Odakyu line and at some hours in the morning it was challenging to even get on the train with a small handbag. A suitcase would have been entirely impossible.

Enjoy your trip to Tokyo!

Since you say "rush hour", I'm sure you won't be in time for the 15:00 Limousine Bus that easily takes you to Conrad Hotel in Shiodome area which is quite close the the Market, but just in case I'll paste a link.

By the way, from Hamamatsucho Station to Tsukiji Station, it's 2 km on flat wide roads, so it's walkable if the weather is nice and the luggage is not a burden. It's also a quick taxi ride.

Re: Haneda to Tsukiji in the evening 2018/3/21 17:41
When will you travel?

It is on weekdays that you may encounter commuters' rush.
On public holidays outside high tourist seasons, you are less likely to get caught in a huge crowd of passengers.

When in the day is your (international) flight arrival expected?
(Arriving from overseas, you may spend one or (maybe) a few hours on the immigration procedure.)
At 17:30, it is probably before the evening rush.

Stations in Haneda Airport are non-subway stations,
on the Keikyu (Airport Line) or on the Tokyo Monorail.

Many Keikyu - Toei through trains
depart from the Keikyu stations
then continue beyond Sengakuji Station (A-07)
onto the Toei Subway Asakusa Line.

Keikyu | Tokyo Monorail trains leaving Haneda Airport
start at the station in the Domestic Terminal.
So, they are are not always empty
on their arrival at the station in the International Terminal.

Tsukijishijo Station (E-18)
is on the Toei Subway Oedo Line.

You can take a Keikyu - Toei through train
until (A-09) Daimon Station (E-20),
then make a relatively short transfer there
from the Asakusa Line (Track 2, on the 1st basement)
to the Oedo Line (Track 3, on the 5th basement),
via the pathway outside the ticket gates (on the 3rd basement);
you can go down to the lower levels by elevator.

Trains leaving Haneda Airport on the Keikyu Airport Line
go in several directions.
Please feel free to ask a Keikyu station attendant
which train you can take to get to subway Daimon Station.

Alternatively,
you can take a Tokyo Monorail train
until Monorail Hamamatsucho Station
and make a transfer to Toei Subway Daimon Station.
However,
the monorail track (on the 5th floor)
and the subway track (on the 5th basement)
are apart from each other both vertically and horizontally;
you walk outside the gates for about 200 meters,
going down some staircases and escalators.

Tokyo Subway Network is of 9 Tokyo Metro lines and 4 Toei Subway lines.
(Some lines lead to stations outside Tokyo.)
