Close bank account from abroad? 2018/4/9 20:13
I have PR in Japan, but recently had to return home (EU) for family problems. It now seems that I will not be able to return to Japan to live, but only for visiting, and will need to think about changing my permanent country of residence from Japan to present country.

My question is: how can I close my bank account in Japan? I already had most funds transferred abroad so account has just a very small amount to 'keep it oiled', and all bills are fully paid up. I don't want to have to declare a foreign bank that I no longer need or use on my new country's tax returns, so how can I close the account from my current overseas location? Can I just write them a letter requesting closure?

Any hints appreciated, thanks.

if you leave some money in your account, you can't close it.
