Osaka to Shimokita peninsula?

Hi,
I was originally thought to stay in Tokyo for the entire stay but had to make a sudden change of plans and have to move my stay to Osaka instead. I will be staying in the Shin-Osaka station area for about 1,5 week (I have visited Osaka downtown several times before).
As the only place "close" to Tokyo I will be seeing is the Shimokita peninsula, I was thinking what would be the best way of getting there all the way from Osaka?
There are no night trains on that route so it's either flying (Hakodate, Misawa, Aomori) or by shinkansen all the way, but it would take around 10 hours incl transfers if using a JR Pass.
Not really sure what would be the best bet.

Domestic flght fr ITM to MSJ then take a train or car rent.
