Nikka distillery and Otaru in 1 day?

Hi guys,

I am planning a 1 day trip from Sapporo to Nikka Distillery in Yoichi (is it worth?) and after that go to Otaru and come back to Sapporo? Is it doable? What do you think?

Roughly speaking Yoichi distillery is just in front of JR Yoichi station and there are not so many trains from Sapporo or Otaru. But there are many buses (3 to 6 times per hour) from Otaru (JR Otaru station) which stops at around JR Yoichi station. It takes about 35 min from Otaru to Yoichi by bus and 35 min from Sapporo to Otaru by JR train. So all in all, you can easily do day trip from Sapporo to Yoichi and then to Otaru and back to Sapporo.

Honestly if you have one full day from Sapporo, I would recommend you to visit Shakotan's cape Kamui Misaki which is really scenic if the weather is fine. If you take 7:00 bus from Otaru you will reach there at 9:18. It will take 20-30 min one way to get the tip going through nice trail. If you take 12:14 bus from Cape Kamui you will get Yoichi at 13:49. Spend 2 hours there and take 16:03 train to Otaru (16:26). Otaru is a touristic place and you can find something even in the evening.

If you take 7:00 bus from Otaru

Sorry I didn't realize that the first train from Sapporo to Otaru arrive at 6:59 and you can't catch the 7:00 bus. Instead you can go as far as Yoichi and catch the bus. The train arrives Yoichi at 7:29 while the bus will leave 7:35.
