Hi, any suggestions would be fantastic. Thank you!
I am travelling from Tokyo and want to go to Nikko, Hakone, Mount Fuji, Kanazawa and Takayama. Where would I go from Tokyo? Which route would work best and could I hire a car to travel between these places? I am not interested in driving in Tokyo.

No need for a car. All places have good public transport.
Routes will depend on days traveled and to what order you visit each location.
Follow the route given in this website. Then modify for order of visit.
