One week in Tokyo with three teenage girls!! Where would you stay, Shibuya or Shinjuku?? Ibis Shinjuku looks central to rail & walking distance to many restaurants. What would be your must do's?? Would you take a day trip to Haneda? Tokyo Disney?

There is no such thing as a "must-do". Do your research and find what interests you.

I don't understand what a day-trip to Haneda would entail. I've done so to take photos of departing and arriving planes, but that was in conjunction to my actual flight departure or flight arrival. Haneda is an airport. Maybe you have it confused with some other destination?

What are your girls interested in? A lot of teenage girls who prefer to visit Japan seem to be interested in fashion and knick knacks, which would place them in hotels such as Dormy Inn Shibuya-Jingumae accessible to Harajuku, Shibuya and Shimokitazawa. https://www.hotespa.net/hotels/shibuya/I agree that a day in Disneyland will be nice too especially if you're from a country that doesn't have one.

Just went with a 15 year old daughter. Her favorites were shopping in Shibuya and Harajuku, Skytree, and a day trip to Matsumoto castle where we rented her a kimono. I would recommend Shibuya or asakusa to stay.
We didn't love Shinjuku. The train station is just a confusing mess (as a tourist) and it's difficult to get around to sites on different sides. Plus if you go the wrong way you are in a huge red light district.

I really don't understand why people stay in Shinjuku. It's a place to visit yes but too manic to stay in. I would take the previous posters advice & stay somewhere slightly less frantic. The transport system in Tokyo is amazing so it wouldnt be an inconvenience. I would sit down with them (Ha, Yes, I know) and look at the "Destinations" section of this site & other websites & ask what they want to see. This is a recent somewhat related post here that might be relevant https://www.japan-guide.com/forum/quereadisplay.html?0+162483Lastly I guess that the Haneda reference may be a mistake & mean Hakone

Shinjuku can be overwhelming to a visitor, but I stayed there once and I loved it. It's convenient for transportation, shopping, and eating etc. The station itself is like a city within a city, you can spend a day there and still not see everything. If your daughter is into anime, Ikebukuro is another place to consider. A day trip to Hakone is easy from Shinjuku, but one night stay is better if you want to experience Onsen (you can still experience it without a stay). Disney is worth a trip if you have never been to any other Disney park. A shorter day trip worth considering is Kamakura. https://www.japan-guide.com/e/e2166.html

Have the girls done any research themselves?
Ifd be strongly tempted to get them motivated and choose some thing for themselves.
At least then it wonft be your fault if itfs lame...plus, theyfre probably better at internet research than us adults will ever be.

Thanks everyone, Yes Hakone is a day trip NOT Haneda (whoops). An overnight stay sounds like a good idea & yes the girls have been looking for what interests them. Interesting thoughts on staying in Shinjuku, i will look @ Shibuya. Cheers Helen

If you are there on a Sunday afternoon, Harajuku and Takeshita St are popular places to see Japanese youth and wild fashions. https://youtu.be/3tY7jPFhTBMThere are many good places for city views - the Sky Tree is most famous, but if you want to save some money, there are a lot of good places that are free. http://supermerlion.com/10-free-tokyo-city-views/ Also there are many nice traditional gardens and parks to explore, after you've had your fill of shopping etc and want to unwind. http://teien.tokyo-park.or.jp/en/Try exploring this site's page on Tokyo, as well as the official city tourist guide. You can get lots of ideas. http://www.gotokyo.org/en/index.htmlhttp://www.japan-guide.com/e/e2164.html

I'm another one who is not that keen on Shinjuku, but it does have some great department stores. If you wish to stay nearby, consider Citadines Apartment Hotel, and you will get small kitchenette, and free breakfast. Nearest station to Citadines is Shinjukusanchome. Otherwise in a more upmarket area is Tokyu Stay Aoyama, also with kitchenette, washing machine, microwave. Girls love Takashita Dori, and Harajuku, especially on a Sunday. Another fashion place is Yokohama's Minato Mirai, easily accessed by train from Shibuya, and LaZona Mall attached to the Kawasaki Station. There's Tokyo Midtown, Roppongi Hills, and a new complex which I haven't been to yet, I think called Toronomon Hills. My grand daughter loves Jiyugaoka, and Daikanyama, if you don't want to venture too far away. I agree with Winter Visitor, get the girls involved in research, then you won't get the backlash if it turns out to something teenagers call boring. Always remember if you go somewhere that doesn't hit the mark, just jump on a train and head in another direction.

Another fashion place is Yokohama's Minato Mirai, easily accessed by train from Shibuya, and LaZona Mall attached to the Kawasaki Station.Wow, I never thought that teenage girls in Tokyo come all the way to my prefecture just for fashion! But the residents of my prefecture of Kanagawa do tend to prefer their young daughters to go to Minato Mirai or LaZona rather than the more seedy areas of Yokohama or Kawasaki. Actually though, Kawasaki Atre right in front of the train ticket gate of Kawasaki Station has been renovated and become a fun suburban place to visit. But I have to say that Minato Mirai and Kawasaki is not that much of a teen-fashion heaven, in my humble opinion. As a Yokohama female citizen, I suggest the Red Brick Warehouse. That classy building is filled with tourist, foreign and domestic, and it's a fun place for girls to do some window shopping. It's also near places you can enjoy walking such as the path to Osanbashi or Yamashita Park or China Town as well as many tiny museums on one direction and malls on the other. https://www.yokohama-akarenga.jp/If you can tell us what your girls usually are interested in their hometown, someone may be able to guide you to the right direction.

Disneyland and or DisneySea for sure- matching Minnie Mouse head bands and a great day had by all.
You could even happily sit somewhere in either park and put your feet up and let them go for it- bonus!
