Limited express supplement fees 2018/5/31 13:51
Hello all,

We will be using the Kansai Thru Pass for our visit to the Kansai region.

We are thinking of taking the limited express train to Koyasan instead of the regular commuter one. I understand we pay an extra fee for this train, however our question is how this fee will be paid.

For example, do we pay prior to boarding the train? Or actually on board the said train? Do we pay in cash only or can we use our IC card to pay them?

Thank you everyone!

do we pay prior to boarding the train?

Yes. All seats of the limited express train are reserved seats so you must buy the reserved seat ticket beforehand.

Do we pay in cash only or can we use our IC card to pay them?

They accept cash, credit cards and Unionpay cards.

Thank you very much!

Just a follow-up:

We can only pay supplemental fees at the manned ticket counter, right? Do we just show them our Kansai Thru Pass then indicate we want to pay the additional fee for the limited express train?

Again, thank you!

You can buy the limited express ticket at both manned ticket counter and ticket vending machine. Many people think it will be easier to buy it at the manned ticket counter so sometimes you have to queue. As far as I know the vending machine sells the ticket for the same day.

You should say "Koyasan, limited express ticket." and as you said, show your Kansai thru pass.
