Leave Japan while CoE is in process?

I am on a multiple entry, 30 days visa. The processing of the Cerificate of Eligibility takes up to 1-2 months. Should I ask for an extension? Of course, I cant tell the immigration I am waiting for my CoE right? Can a tourist visa for 30 days be extended?

You can always ask, but tourist visas are very rarely extended.
